AMD's Next-Generation Opteron "Bulldozer" Chips to Feature Adjustable TDP

AMD's Interlagos and Valencia to Sport TDP Power Cap Feature

Advanced Micro Devices next-generation Opteron microprocessors based on Bulldozer micro-architecture will support capability to adjust maximum thermal design power (TDP). The technology will allow customers to regulate TDPs in order to balance power consumption and performance of data centers.

Today's AMD Opteron processors allow turning off processor states in order to reduce power consumption, though that ultimately can lead to somewhat lower performance. Still, some large server users value power efficiency higher than pure performance. AMD promises that code-named Interlagos and Valencia will be able to reduce the TDP and maintain performance level of the chips.

"With today’s AMD Power Cap Manager, you can limit the processor P-states and cut power consumption although this limits the processor’s ability to get to the top frequency (which is also the most power-hungry spot on the curve as you can imagine).  By essentially “locking out” the top P-state, the processor never gets into that state, even under heavy utilization, helping cut down total power to the processor," explained John Fruehe, director of product marketing for server, embedded and FireStream products at AMD.

With the new TDP Power Cap for AMD Opteron  processors based on the upcoming “Bulldozer” core, customers will be able to set TDP power limits in 1W increments.  This means that instead of having to choose between different TDPs for processors, one can actually buy any power range and then modulate down.
Reducing per-processor TDP slightly means that it will be possible to install more processors into pre-specified power budget without compromising performance significantly. Moreover, if a workload does not exceed the new modulated power limit, one can still get top speed because since the top P-state is unlocked and allows to reach a power level.

Google +1 button begins global rollout!

Google's +1 button has seemingly had the result desired for the search engine, as today sees its proportion from the US to the UK, France, Germany and Japan, with the rest of the world following shortly.

The +1 button is a fairly new addition to Google's arsenal of weapons in its never-ending fight against content farms and other low-quality websites. With its launch internationally, the same results tuning that +1 has been affording to the US search results pages can now work its magic on all of Google's localised, international results pages as well.

Of course its not just Google that benefits from the better search results provided by the use of the +1 button. Sites producing quality content, and with a loyal reader base could well see their rankings improved. And as +1 users' recommendations are flagged to friends on results pages, it's possible that sites may see increased traffic, too.

DDR4 crossover to come in 2014!

Market research firm iSuppli has released a new report that takes a closer look at the DRAM module market. As one might expect, DDR3 dominates. It's expected to make up the lion's share of the market until 2014, when iSuppli thinks next-gen DDR4 modules will take the lion's share of the market.

DDR3 debuted on desktops with Intel's P35 Express chipset just over four years ago. Although it was relatively expensive at the time, prices fell pretty quickly, allowing DDR3 to reach 24% market share in 2009. The third-gen DDR standard took over the following year, and iSuppli expects an even quicker ramp for DDR4. The research firm predicts that DDR4 will more than quadruple its market share after its first year on the market.
While DDR2 prices are predictably on the rise, DDR3 is incredibly cheap these days. You can snag an 8GB dual-channel kit of name-brand DIMMs for only $65. A similiar SO-DIMM kit for notebooks costs just $3 more.

Who’s following you back on Twitter!

"Manage your Twitter followers with ManageFlitter"

With ManageFlitter you can easily give your Twitter account a cleaner and neater look by filtering your following list. This tool helps you to enhance the quality of your homepage.

It is better to get rid of those that are inactive or those who are not following your tweets. It does not only increases your weight but also make your homepage junk-free. ManageFlitter provides you with the perfect tool to see and determine who are inactive, who are not following you back, whose profile does not include an avatar etc in your twitter account. These features are pretty handy as it helps distinguish the spammers from the non spammers.

Good: Super Easy Interface, trendy web 2.0 interface, nice user control, completely free (standard account)!

Bad: Only shows the last 5,000 people you have followed due to Twitter’s API limits, slow to load, Times out (If you multi-task while you’re waiting for the last action to complete, it may time out and you’ll have to reload).

The "free" version includes the following:

- Who you’re following but who’s not following you back
- Friend with no profile images
- People who haven’t posted a tweet in the past month
- People who are “talkative” and tweet more than 5X/day
- People who are “quiet” and tweet less than once/day
- You can do bio searches for anyone that you follow, as well as search their recent tweets

The “Pro” version includes:

- Unlimited daily follow and unfollows. (Standard accounts have a 1000 follow/unfollow limit).
- Track everyone who has unfollowed you and when, and receive detailed email reports of who has followed or unfollowed you daily, weekly or monthly.
- Quickly follow everyone who has recently @replied to you, or retweeted you.
- In the future, there will be detailed reports of your extended social graph. Find out who all your friends are following and you aren’t.

The best thing about "basic-standard" ManageFlitter is that, it offers a wide collection of features for free.

ManageFlitter offers a suite of basic services for free, and premium services for $12/month. The only problem with the premium package is ManageFlitter doesn’t make it easy to see what’s included, which makes it difficult to know whether it’s worth the money.

ManageFlitter is a fun application. It simply lets you find who is not following you, no registration, no entering Twitter credentials. So if you are unsure "if your best friend" is following you or not, simply discover that by visiting http://manageflitter.com It is a solid tool for anyone trying to get a handle on their friends and followers. I highly recommend it if you are being overwhelmed by the spammers.

Asus "ultra-portable" U36

ASUS has launched its ultra-portable U36 laptop in the UK, priced at £699 including VAT.

Powered by a standard-voltage Intel Core i5 CPU, the U36 - with its 19mm thick chassis - is billed as the world's thinnest laptop and is manufactured from a lightweight magnesium alloy with nanometer coating. ASUS tells us that the U36 can therefore stand its ground against dirt, water and fingerprint marks.
Powering the 13.3in display are graphics capabilities - including Optimus technology - from NVIDIA, and ASUS claims that battery life extends up to 10 hours. What's more, the U36 can apparently tease the 11.5 hour mark, thanks to the ability for users to disable USB 3.0 functionality.
Available in black or silver colour options, the U36 wraps-up with 802.11 b/g/n wireless functionality, 500GB storage capacity, and a weight of 1.44kg.

Looking for a good Sci-Fi reading? E-book "The Frequency" is the perfect choice!

He was her best friend. She was the only one who was able to see him - up to the day when he suddenly disappeared. Forever? Was he just a product of her imagination or was there some deeper truth?

The novel The Frequency is first set in a small European country Slovenia where we meet the main protagonist Ina Kralj. Before she starts elementary school she has a best friend only she can see. But soon he vanishes and Ina is not sure anymore if he was real or not. The setting shifts to New York where Ina travels to continue her studies. Maybe there is a deeper purpose hidden in her decision...
The story also speaks about how irrelevant it is where we come from since an individual's soul is not limited by physical borders. The romantic plot full of dark twists and a dramatic dénouement is interlaced with the protagonists' special abilities and interesting messages which lead us to believe that the truth may lie in the absolute devotion to something higher than us and in the faith in the message: ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.

To be more exact...

The story speaks about Ina, a girl who spends the last days before school with her friend Ravi. But she is the only one who can see him. Ina's parents are concerned about her slightly asocial behavior because they believe her friend is just a figment of her imagination. They want her to have a social life, to become a normal child with real friends. Their wish comes true when she enters elementary school. This is also the time when she loses touch with Ravi and his inexplicable disappearance causes her a lot of pain. During elementary school she is unable to become a part of the crowd because she feels too different from her peers. Her maturity, open-mind and the broadness of her soul contribute to her decision to move to New York after finishing elementary school and continue her education there. From this part on the story acquires a new dimension and the plot becomes interlaced with many romantic moments and dark twists. The events set in New York disclose to the reader whether Ina's friend is real or not. The story also further describes their real relationship and connection. But the real test is in wait for Ina when she meets a mysterious, slightly charming but scary older man. It is no coincidence that his dislike of Ina is the consequence of the tight connection between Ravi and her. The relationship between Ina and Ravi is tested one last time by the mysterious man's evil act which is the result of his lack of power. It is only the use of special powers which are the result of the main protagonists' surrender to the deeper truth that can bring about their happy future.

How to convert non-Amazon books for the Kindle!

If you have a Kindle and want to use a non-Amazon e-books! Then youre on right place!

Amazon doesn’t show the way to make it clear how to use non-Amazon sources (we wouldn’t expect any less really, they have a business model to support and encourage). It’s really easy with the use of a free and open-source application called Calibre. Calibre can easily convert many, many, document formats into Kindle friendly formats (such as ePUB,  LIT, LRF, and more to the MOBI format used by the Kindle).  Think of Calibre as a media manager for your books (much like iTunes is common and popular media manager for music). You can download Calibre here or, to get a feel for the application, read guide from "How-To-Geek" to convert PDF to ePUB format with Calibre. All you need to do is exchanged PDF for whatever format you want to convert and select MOBI instead of ePUB and you’ll be all set. Plug in your Kindle, copy the files, and enjoy!

Now enjoy reading a non-Amazon e-books on your Kindle!

How to Shrink Videos to Fit Your Android Phone with VLC!

If you want to put a video on your Android phone, you’ll probably need to shrink it down to fit the size of the screen and make it take up less space. There’s lots of conversion software out there, but did you know you can do it with VLC?
There’s a lot more you can do with VLC, for instance,  you can also copy a DVD with VLCtake snapshots of your favorite movie scenes, or you can use it to convert video from one type to another. Before you convert any videos, you need to know the encoding specification of your phone. For example, this is the video encoding specification of Droid X.

Add as many videos as you want, and when you are ready, click the “convert/save” button to adjust their size, or video file type.

Choose “convert” to adjust the video size.

Pick a folder, an appropriate file name, and a video file type under the profile section.

VLC can convert your media files into different video file types. Ogg, mp4, divx, are only some of video file types that VLC supports.

Click the profile button, and specify custom settings that are compatible with your Android specification.

Give the new profile an appropriate name.

Check the settings  under the video and audio, and change them to match the video encoding of your Android. We found that ogg produced smaller videos compare to other file types.

A media file contains a video, an audio stream, or both – and VLC lets you control the media stream that you want to produce. If you are only interested in listening to the music, untick the Video check box under the video codec tab, and select the audio stream under the audio codec tab.

You can reduce the file size even further by lowering the video or audio bitrate, but of course, you’ll get a video with a bad quality.

Once you have confirmed the settings, save the profile, and click the start button.

VLC will enter a streaming mode, and depending on the video, this may take some time. Once the seek bar reaches the end, you should see a new video under the specified destination file folder.

Once you’re done, just hook up your phone to your PC with a USB cable, and copy the file over into the Videos folder.
Download VLC

World’s Smallest Transistor (2nm in size) developed by joint research of South Korean, Japanese and British scientists!

Logic gates on Processors are created using Trasistors. And more the number of transistors present on the processor, more is the performance gain of the system. So, Scientists are always trying their level best to reduce the size of transistors to make them as small as possible, as it would lead to faster processing and greater performance by devices using them.
There was a joint research performed at the Chungbuk National University in South Korea, where the team of scientists from South Korea, Japan and Britain was led by professor Choi Jung-bum. This team worked on the applications of the quantum effect to successfully create the world’s smallest transistor.
Smallest Transistor
A local researcher at the University said, “This transistor could be used to enhance the capabilities of mobile electronic devices”. So, even when we already have dual-core mobile processors with good processing capabilities, we can surely expect more!
Professor Choi Jung-bum said, “The quantum effect transistor, which is just 2 nanometers in size, can operate in regular room temperature and effectively changes the entire paradigm of such devices” (read: mobile devices)
No words regarding the mass production or the availability were mentioned.

Here you can find some interesting reviews about my widgets! On Squidoo site you can make your lenses "which is a great community" and earn with them money!

Here are my two lenses:
